NCFC President Appreciates Passage of Senate Farm Bill
Thu, 21 Jun 2012 17:37:12 CDT
Chuck Connor, president of the National Council of Farmer's Cooperatives, had this to say about Senate passage of the 2012 Farm Bill:
"NCFC and the nation's farmer cooperatives appreciate the Senate's passage today of S. 3240, the Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2012 as a vital step forward in reaching a final farm bill that promotes an economically healthy and competitive US agriculture sector.
"At the same time, we recognize that this is only one step in the process and that the Senate bill fails to provide an adequate safety net for producers in certain regions of the country, especially the South. As action turns towards the House and, eventually, a conference committee, NCFC looks forward to the continuing process of crafting a farm bill that is regionally balanced and able to garner broad support across commodities.
"Senate Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) and Ranking Member Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) have displayed commendable leadership and vision throughout the process, and have put in the hard work and long hours necessary to shepherd the farm bill through the Senate. Both are true friends of America's farmer cooperatives and we look forward to continuing to work with them on this and other issues."
