Wheatwatch 2012: Harvest Wrapping Up in Most Areas; Panhandle 50 Percent Complete
Tue, 12 Jun 2012 09:49:53 CDT
Mike Schulte of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission files the following update on harvest progress through June 11th:
Producers in North Central Oklahoma have been working hard this past weekend to finish up with wheat harvest in our state. In all regions of North Central and Northwest Oklahoma harvest is pretty well finished with a few minor individuals still harvesting. This makes all regions of the state mostly complete with a few other minor producers in other areas still harvesting as well. From South to North in Oklahoma with the exception of the Panhandle the state is 98 percent complete with wheat harvest 2012. The Panhandle Region of the state is being reported to be over half complete, with some irrigated wheat being taken into Hooker this past Saturday.
Irrigated wheat being taken in so far is reported to be 61 to 63 pounds with yields being reported to be making in the 55 bushel range on the irrigated wheat.
Dry-land wheat harvest is just getting a good start in the far west part of the Panhandle around the Boise City area. Test weights on the dry-land wheat ranging from 57 to 59 pounds in this region with one 60 pound test weight being reported. No yields have been reported in this area so far as harvest is just beginning.
Average test weights for Oklahoma as of last week came in at 60.3 pounds per bushel with an average protein level in the state at 12.4 percent. This will conclude the last harvest report by the Oklahoma Wheat Commission for the majority of the state for the 2012 harvest season, we will have some brief updates this week on harvest progress for the Panhandle regions.
