Wheatwatch 2012: Yields Look Good On Irrigated Panhandle Acres
Thu, 14 Jun 2012 15:30:16 CDT
Debbie Wedel of the Oklahoma Wheat Commission says harvest in the Panhandle was slowed by recent rains but is still moving forward. She filed this update of Wheatwatch 2012:
June 14th
Rains on Tuesday have shut down wheat harvest in the Boise City area but the elevators are expecting producers to be in the field by 5pm this evening (Thursday). Saturday, Sunday, and Monday were very busy as producers are finishing up the dryland wheat in this area. Test weights on the dryland wheat are ranging from 57 - 59 pounds. This area expects to get into the irrigated wheat in about a week.
Hooker Equity Exchange reports that producers are finishing up the dryland and getting into the irrigated wheat, so both are coming in. Irrigated is averaging 55 - 65 bushels per acre with test weights ranging from 62 - 63 pounds. Dryland wheat continues to yield 10 - 20 bushels per acre with test weights ranging from 54 - 59. The overall test weights at Hooker are averaging 59 - 60. John VanMeter estimates the harvest in this area to be 2/3rd complete and that he is "very pleased" with this year's harvest.
ADM elevators in Texas County (Guymon area) are well into the irrigated wheat. Yields are averaging 50 - 55 bushels per acre and test weights are averaging 60.5. The dryland harvest in this area is complete. The irrigated wheat harvest started 7 - 10 days ago in Southeast Texas County is a rapidly moving Northwest. Of the ADM elevators in this area, 2 are 3/4ths finished and 3 are 1/3 finished with harvest.
