Rainfall Totals and Expectations- The Latest Maps
Thu, 27 Sep 2012 05:55:43 CDT
Many Oklahoma farmers and ranchers have received some good rainfall totals- and more seems to be on the way. Alan Crone with the News on 6 in Tulsa writes in his Thursday morning blog "Some flood issues may occur across south central OK where significant rainfall occurred yesterday afternoon and where some hefty thunderstorms are located this morning. Some of this thunderstorm activity this morning is being driven by a convectively induced area of vorticity known as "MCV" ( spin in the atmosphere) that is lifting northeast across south central OK. The trend during the last hour has been for the coverage of the showers and storms to gradually decrease as the MCV is moving into a more stable atmosphere. The tail end of the system has been the strongest and has produced a large amount of cloud to ground lightning."
The graphic below shows rainfall totals up to 5:40 AM this morning over the last couple of days statewide. Meanwhile, the graphic at the top of the page is a forward looking prediction from the National Weather Service- and a lot of that rain expected in Texas may be coming from Pacific storm Miriam- with some of that to possibly benefit southern Oklahoma counties.
Some of the rainfall totals may product a little bit of runoff, which helps refill ponds and lakes- and many locations may get enough to plant winter canola and wheat once the fields dry out enough for the planters to roll across the fields early next week.
