Choice Boxed Beef prices rose while the finished cattle traded steady to a dollar lower for week ending September 21, 2012 - Audio with Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office, Amarillo, Texas

In this week's beef report with Ed Czerwien, USDA Market News Office in Amarillo, Texas, we saw the choice cut market end the week of September 21, 2012 gaining about $1.80 over the previous week and ending at $193.34 cwt. The total boxed beef volume was 6,585 loads last week, over 1,100 loads less than a week earllier.
The general trend in the finished cattle trade was steady to $1.00 lower at mostly $126.00 cwt in the South. The dressed trade last week was mostly $195 to $197 cwt in the North. Volume was light in both cases.
The harvest weight last week from the Texas Panhandle was 1,257 pounds which was 17 pounds lower than the previous week.
