Wed, 10 Oct 2012 15:13:26 CDT
The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation will host a Ground Preparation Field Day to show beginning specialty crop growers different techniques to prepare soil for planting.
The field day will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at the Noble Foundation Horticulture Center located on the main campus in Ardmore, Okla.
Experts from the Noble Foundation, Oklahoma State University and the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture will demonstrate different types of tillage machinery, including walk-behind, tractor-operated equipment. Bedding and plastic-mulch-laying machines for plasticulture will also be demonstrated.
"Ground preparation is an often overlooked, but highly critical, step in the planting process," said Steve Upson, Noble Foundation horticulture consultant. "This workshop focuses on all the fundamental elements of ground preparation and offers insight to those transitioning to a plasticulture growing system."
This field day is offered at no charge, but preregistration is required. For more information or to register, click here or contact Tracy Cumbie at 580.224.6292.
