Kingfisher FFA Makes Finals in Ag Issues Contest- Our Friday Morning Update

Things continue to shape up very nicely for many FFA members here at the 2012 National Convention of the FFA in Indianapolis. We saw several Oklahoma individuals and teams in action on Thursday- and we will know how they did later today in most cases.

The Kingfisher FFA Chapter offered a very impressive Ag Issues presentation on Thursday afternoon in the national finals of that contest. The issue they selected was whether Kingfisher needed to update their airport and include a paved runway in that update. The members of the team developed arguments on both sides of the issue, made presentations back home to groups like Kiwanis, the Lions Club and the Farm Bureau before coming to the National Convention- and then made their presentation three times here in Indy. We talked with two of the members of the team after their Finals presentation- Jami Adams and Caitlyn Minton. Our conversation with them is a part of our Friday morning overview that you can hear by clicking on the LISTEN BAR below. Other members of the team include Blake Cameron, Page Helms, Jason Murray, Jessie Phillips and Maegan Yost. (the team and Advisor Lori Burns are pictured here)

Vinita FFA has been named a National Model of Innovation, which means they are one of the elite chapters in the country in the area of service they emphasized this past year- the area of student services.Click here for our story that we have posted on this high honor for Vinita FFA.

Yesterday morning- we watched all four of the contestants in the National Final Four of the Prepared Public Speech Contest- that included Tanner Allread of Union City FFA. He represented Oklahoma very well- gave a strong speech and an even stronger set of answers to questions posed by the judges- and now he waits for the results that will be announced this evening.

During the day on Thursday- two of our state FFA officers, Kelsie Williams and Annie Jo Gilbert, helped us with "photo duty." We handed over a digital SLR to them and they went looking for Oklahoma FFA members- and got some great fun shots from across the Convention . We have them posted on our FLICKR page- click here to take a look.

Looking ahead to Friday- we will be posting stories on Profiency Awards- visits that we will be having with American Star Finalists Jeremy Weichel of Cordell and Taylor Runyan of Atoka- and lots more. Be watchig the Blue Green Gazette as we will be posting stuff throughout the day.

Our exclusive coverage from the 2012 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis is a service of the Oklahoma FFA Association and the Oklahoma FFA Alumni Association. FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
