Dustin Focht of Stillwater, Okla., won top honors at the final qualifying event for the 2013 World Livestock Auctioneer Championship (WLAC). The event was held October 29, in Davenport, Wash. For placing first, Focht received a custom-designed Gist belt buckle and $1,000 cash.
Focht, who auctioneers weekly for three livestock markets in Oklahoma and Kansas, faced a tough field of competition that included 17 auctioneers from across the U.S. and one entry from Australia. Focht is sponsored by Cherokee Sales Co., Cherokee, Okla.
Robb Taylor of Perkins, Okla., also placed among the top 10 auctioneers in the Davenport qualifier and earned a berth in the semi-finals to be held in Montgomery, Ala., June 14-15.
Other auctioneers with Oklahoma ties who qualified in earlier WLAC events are:
--Bryan Little. He won the Hattiesburg, Ala., WLAC Qualifier in September. Little is an auctioneer at the Tulsa Stockyards and the Coffeeville, Kansas, Livestock Market.
--Ashley Noland. Noland was the Reserve Champion at the first qualifier in Bristow, Okla. He calls auctions in Hollis and Elk City.
-- Tracy Sullivan of Prague, Okla., was the Runner-Up Champion in Bristow.
-- Mike Godberson of Pawnee was a top-ten finisher in Bristow.
The top 10 from each of the three qualifiers, as well as the International Livestock Auctioneer Champion, traditionally given a "bye" into the contest, create a field of 31 semi-finalists.
