Sideways Patterns Continue in Grain Markets, Anderson Says

Sideways Patterns Continue in Grain Markets, Anderson Says
Grain markets are moving sluggishly at the moment says Kim Anderson, small grains marketing specialist at Oklahoma State University. In a preview to this week's SUNUP program, Anderson says the markets are in somewhat of a holding pattern.

"The latest is just more of the same. The Kansas City Board of Trade December contract continues to wallow around between that $8.69 support level and $9.57 resistance level. I will say that on that December contract it has moved into the upper two-thirds or the upper third of that price range-just a slight upward trend on that December contract in that sideways pattern.

"If you look out at the July 13 contract, it does have an uptrend and if you had a resistance price level it popped through it last week and with this drought it just keeps going up."

Anderson said that Argentina and Australia harvests are coming in about as expected. He said quality may be down slightly due to some wet weather which also may lower yields slightly.

Also on this week's SUNUP:
--Dave Lalman at the north range talks about new research underway on hay efficiency. He also suggests tips on preparing cattle for colder temperatures.

--In the Mesonet report, Al Sutherland and Gary McManus cover the lack of rainfall, the latest drought monitor and plant-available water in soil.

--Josh Bushong has a progress report on Oklahoma's winter canola crop.

--In Shop Stop, Wayne Kiner and Randy Taylor demonstrate how to maintain a chainsaw during the winter months.

--Derrell Peel looks at the impact of Hurricane Sandy on beef markets.

--In Cow-Calf Corner, Glenn Selk explains ideal bull-to-cow ratios based on age.

--Jennifer Jensen and Ryan McMullen discuss the Farm Service Agency discrimination claims process for women and Hispanics, just one of the topics covered at Women in Agriculture conferences around the state.
