Looking Back on 2012- See Through Our Photo Lens on Flickr

Fri, 28 Dec 2012 10:46:38 CST

Looking Back on 2012- See Through Our Photo Lens on Flickr Covering events is one of the things that we are committed to at the Radio Oklahoma Ag Network and OklahomaFarmReport.Com. Along the way- we see a lot of great people and places and things- and the adage that a picture is worth a thousand words is true so often- and one of the ways that we cover the business of farming and ranching- as well as the lifestyle elements of our industry- is through pictures we take and place in sets on the social media site, FLICKR. In 2012, we have placed about 18 sets on our FLICKR page that come from events at the state, national and even international level. Several thousand photos can be seen that help tell the story of agriculture in a most distinctive way.

We have highlighted five of them that we will share specific links to that you may want to check out as 2012 winds down. If you want to see all 18 sets and choose your own memories, click here for our Flickr page where they are located.

We have pulled one photo from each of these featured sets- the one above is from the OALP travels to Ireland and Scotland, and the four below include- in this order- the Oklahoma Youth Expo, the Ag Hall of Fame Day, the National FFA Convention and the 2012 Wheat Harvest.

2012 Oklahoma Youth Expo

We have more pictures in this set than in any other- as we have pictures of youth people showing their goats, lambs, heifers, gilts, barrows, steers and themselves from last March. Pictures in this set include everything from the opening weekend to the grand finale- the sell of the top market animals in the 2012 Premium Sale. Class Fifteen of the Oklahoma Ag Leadership Program Travels to Scotland and Ireland

Class XV of the OALP traveled to first Scotland and then to Northern Ireland and finally the Republic of Ireland back in February of this year. This picture set features cows and sheep and castles and a lot more as this group of young adult agricultural leaders learned about how things are done in a society that has a similar mindset in some things- and a very different perspective in many other things. As a result, lots of learning took place and lots of great pictures about the agriculture of these countries were captured. Click here for this wonderful set of pictures that chronicles the capstone experience of Class XV of the OALP.

2012 Oklahoma Ag Hall of Fame

Jack Givens is the 15th member of the Oklahoma Ag Hall of Fame- he was awarded the Governor's Award for Outstanding Lifetime Achievement in Agriculture by Governor Mary Fallin at Ag Day 2012 on April 5, 2012 in Oklahoma City. We were there that day and were able to get pictures of Mr. Givens and his family- as well as several previous Hall of Fame inductees that were there at the Capitol that day. To see this set of photos for this special day for Oklahoma Agriculture- click here for the 2012 OKlahoma Ag Hall of Fame photos.

2012 National FFA Convention

One of my favorite annual events where we shoot lots of photos is the National FFA Convention- and Oklahoma had a great year earlier in the fall in Indianapolis at this year's convention. focus on Oklahoma Over a thousand Oklahoma FFA members were at the convention that was held October 24-27- and our photo set shows dozens and dozens of smiling faces and also captures our interaction in interviewing many of the National award winners that hail from Oklahoma. Click here for the complete set from the 2012 National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.

2012 Wheat Harvest

We actually had a couple of wheat related sets for the 2012 wheat crop in Oklahoma- and this particular set was showcasing wheat fully ripe and ready to be harvested- as well as some great shots of harvest from this past May as well. Our wheat related photos are a service of our WheatWatch series, as sponsored by the Oklahoma Wheat Commission. Click here for a look at what turned out to be a really good harvest season- one we can only wish could be repeated in 2013.
