Transportation and Logistics Expert Appointed to FAPC’s Advisory Board
A transportation and logistics expert is the newest addition to an advisory board representing Oklahoma State University's Robert M. Kerr Food & Agricultural Products Center.

Appointed by the speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, Nancy Addington, manager of transportation at the Associated Wholesale Grocers distribution center in Oklahoma City, joins the 16-member Industry Advisory Committee to help oversee the center's mission and vision.

"I feel honored to be appointed and excited to be a part of the committee," Addington said. "As issues come up that involve my areas of expertise, I hope I can be of help, especially in the distribution and transportation segments."

To learn more about FAPC, Addington visited the center and met with FAPC Director Roy Escoubas, administrators from OSU's Division of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and center faculty and staff. The Jan. 15 visit also included a tour of the FAPC facility.

"I was surprised at the diversity of all the different departments and areas of the center and learned a lot from the tour," Addington said. "I knew the center had many scientists on staff, but I didn't realize the depth of research in the building until I saw it firsthand."

Addington has almost 25 years of transportation and logistics experience and has been employed with AWG for the past 15 years. She is responsible for shipping more than 500,000 tons of grocery products per year to 240-member grocery stores in Oklahoma.

During her tenure at the Oklahoma City facility, Addington has held many positions from warehouse clerk to risk management clerk to inventory control specialist to distribution specialist.

"We were very fortunate to have Ms. Addington visit FAPC and learn more about our capabilities of helping the food industry," Escoubas said. "We also are looking forward to Ms. Addington contributing to our Industry Advisory Committee, especially with her extensive knowledge and experience in the transportation and logistics segments."

AWG is a retailer-owned cooperative serving more than 1,900 retail member stores with a complete assortment of grocery, fresh meat, fresh produce, specialty foods, health care and general merchandise items. Through an extensive distribution network and nine distribution centers, including the Oklahoma City facility, AWG and its subsidiaries deliver to more than 2,500 retail outlets in 24 states.
