Checking Mama Cows Daily During Breeding Season is Smart Management

Spring breeding season is underway for cow-calf producers. Cow-calf specialist Dr. Bob Weaber with K-State Research and Extension says that monitoring what is going on in your herd during this time is very important. Weaber says that if a hear cycle is missed by one of your mama cows- there is a significant cost to your operation. Weaber says extension research shows that females that are bred earlier in the breeding season rather than later have a better chance of producing a calf that will perform well.


Weaber is our guest on today's Beef Buzz as we discuss the importance of the cattle producer paying close attention to the heifers, the more mature cows as well as the bulls working your herd.
