The National Steering Committee of the 25x'25 Alliance commends the Senate Agriculture Committee for its bipartisan adoption today of a new five-year farm bill that powerfully embraces energy title programs.
"Farm Bill energy initiatives like the Rural Energy for America Program, Biomass Crop Assistance Program and Biorefinery Assistance Program, strongly support American agriculture while creating thousands of jobs in rural areas," said Read Smith, Steering Committee co-chairman.
Bart Ruth, the Steering Committee's other co-chairman, said, "These programs have been critical to the successful development of renewable energy solutions to our nation's energy challenges. The Senate Agriculture Committee, led by Chair Debbie Stabenow (R-MI) and strong renewable energy champions like Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), is preserving and funding programs that help revitalize our economy, boost the development of sustainable energy technologies that improve our environment, and promote the production of biofuels that reduce our dependence on foreign oil and improve our national security."
The Steering Committee urges the full Senate and the House of Representatives to follow the Senate committee's lead and facilitate investment in renewable energy solutions now that will pay big economic dividends in the near future.

National Sorghum Producers appreciates action taken today by the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry to mark up and pass the Federal Agriculture Reform, Food and Jobs Act of 2013 by a vote of 15-5.
"NSP thanks Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow, Ranking Member Thad Cochran and the rest of the Senate Ag Committee for their hard work and leadership to once again pass a farm bill," said J.B. Stewart, NSP Legislative Committee chairman. "We hope this momentum carries through the Senate floor and we are able to enact a farm bill before current legislation expires at the end of this year."
