Wheat and Canola Prices at Harvest Next Year Will Be Lower Than in 2013

Fri, 26 Jul 2013 05:47:46 CDT

Wheat and Canola Prices at Harvest Next Year Will Be Lower Than in 2013 Extension Grain Market Economist Dr. Kim Anderson sees lower wheat and canola prices at harvest time in 2014, compared to this year. In the case of wheat, a bumper corn crop that is expected to be harvested this year will take away any price support for wheat in the coming year- and farmgate wheat prices at harvest could be around six dollars a bushel in much of Oklahoma- compared to seven dollars in the June to mid July time frame this year. Likewise, canola prices may be pressured by a big soybean crop this fall- and Anderson tells Lyndall Stout on the weekly OSU Ag Communications program SUNUP that he expects canola prices just above nine dollars a bushel by harvest next May and June.

You can hear their entire conversation right now by clicking on the LISTEN BAR below- or you can wait and see this segment and all of the other segments of SUNUP Saturday or Sunday morning on SUNUP this weekend on OETA.

Beyond the Kim Anderson segment- This week on SUNUP, they will feature the 92nd Oklahoma 4-H Roundup opening ceremony with Burns Hargis, Mike Woods and Charles Cox. Then, we showcase a first-time Roundup participant as he competes.

In the Mesonet report, Al Sutherland and Gary McManus recap the recent rainfall and highlight the three-year July rainfall trends.

We tag along with 4-H members looking for clues during the CSI in a Wheat Field summer forensics camp. Jacqueline Fletcher and Jeff Sallee explain what students learn from the experience.

In Cow-Calf Corner, Glenn Selk explains some of the challenges of determining vitamin and mineral nutrition for grazing cattle.

Next, Kevin Allen tells us about the 4-H national champion compound archery team, and we take you to 4-H skeet shoot practice in Arcadia.

Randy Taylor and Wayne Kiner have project management advice for large jobs, in Shop Stop.

Then, Rusty Gosz and Mark Johnson talk about OSU's Big 3 Field Days livestock judging competition for Oklahoma
4-H'ers and FFA members.

Finally, Peter Muriana demonstrates why proper hand washing is a crucial part of food safety, in the Food Why's segment.
