NACD Calls on House to Appoint Farm Bill Conferees
Fri, 20 Sep 2013 14:06:34 CDT
Following the U.S. House of Representatives' passage of the Nutrition Reform and Work Opportunity Act of 2013, the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) is calling on House leadership to appoint conferees as soon as possible to allow both chambers to work together on the swift passage of a comprehensive Farm Bill.
"While the Farm Bill process has been far from ideal, we are encouraged that the House's passage of a nutrition bill will allow both chambers to come together across party lines to reach a consensus on a comprehensive Farm Bill that supports the conservation of our nation's natural resources for the future," said NACD President Earl Garber.
Failure to pass a new bill before the current one expires on September 30 will have very real consequences not only for farmers and ranchers, but for the land, air, water and other natural resource that serve as the foundation of our nation's food supply.
"There has been uncertainty surrounding the Farm Bill for far too long," said Garber. "It's time for farmers, ranchers and landowners to have the long-term assurances they need to make wise decisions when it comes to the future sustainability of their land and their businesses."
