The Big Chill (with Preciptation) Roaring Closer- The Latest Maps

Wed, 04 Dec 2013 06:10:54 CST

The Big Chill (with Preciptation) Roaring Closer- The Latest Maps Bitterly cold air is headed our way- and by Saturday morning- a lot of Oklahoma could be in the low teens down into single digits. As we talked about yesterday- once we go below freezing sometime early tomorrow morning- we won't see 32 degrees again until Tuesday or perhaps even Wednesday. Wind chills are predicted to be as low as -10 in the Panhandle. The Panhandle is already below freezing this morning and the next forecast that shows them back to 32 degrees is next Tuesday.

As for Precipitation- this winter storm will affect the area with two waves of precipitation later this afternoon in the Panhandle and then into the body of the state Thursday and early Friday. The freezing rain in southeast Oklahoma could create an ice storm with 1/4 inch accumulation, and some areas could see significantly more. Two to five inches of snow are possible in Texas and Cimarron Counties. Most of Oklahoma will get at least a small amount of snow, sleet or ice before these two waves are finished with us.

The maps we have here come from all three National Weather service forecast offices that serve Oklahoma. The top map is for the Oklahoma City weather area- and shows precipitation amounts that are possible. The first map below is also for the OKC area- and shows high temps for the next few days. The next map is for the Panhandle area out of the Amarillo NWS office- and shows snowfall amounts that will start coming later today- and the bottom map is from the Tulsa area- showing their precipitation possibilities.

Click here to read the Alan Crone News on 6 Weather blog from Wednesday morning- and finally- click here for the current Winter Weatgher Watch for the Oklahoma City NWS coverage area. Winter Weather watches also are in effect for the Oklahoma Panhandle as well as much of Eastern Oklahoma as well. It is anticpated that later today- that could be elevated to a winter storm warning for much of the state.
