AFBF President Commends House Leadership for Immigration Principles
Fri, 31 Jan 2014 10:26:33 CST
Bob Stallman, president of the American Farm Bureau Federation issued the following statement on the Republican House leadership's principles for immigration reform:
"A comprehensive agricultural labor plan that works for all sectors of agriculture, and across all regions of our nation, is long overdue. The American Farm Bureau Federation commends the House leadership for recognizing that farmers and ranchers need access to a legal and stable workforce, as Congress works to fix our broken immigration system. The leadership's principles released today are a positive step in moving this process forward.
"America's farmers and ranchers depend on the workers who show up every day to tend crops and care for livestock. In short, our farmers and ranchers need long-term access to a steady and reliable supply of skilled agricultural workers.
"We are encouraged by the leadership's immigration reform principles, as they relate to labor and border security. We are hopeful they will provide the needed framework to move forward during the 113th Congress with a legislative solution for America's agricultural labor shortage. We look forward to working with House members toward this goal."
