2014 Canola Crop in Pictures- Mom, We Need a Drink!
Mon, 14 Apr 2014 03:21:25 CDT
Saturday, we stopped at a winter canola field in northeast Canadian County that was blooming and clearly under drought stress. With a good rain, these plants could still fill out the rows and put on more blooms, but without additional rain, the potential of the crop is ugly at best.
The photo above shows several plants that have wilted leaves on them- and a crack is clearly seen in the ground. The pictures below show a view of the best blooms in the field, then a second and third shot that shows more ground between the plants.
This field is on the north side of Highway three just a few miles into Canadian County from the Oklahoma County line- and likely received little or no rain from the storm system that set up just east of this location on Sunday afternoon. Freezing temperatures early Tuesday morning could really hurt the potential that is left in this field, especially if no rain arrives soon.
We have a few more pictures than these four of this field that you can see- click here for a chance to see them on our Flickr page.
