Noble Foundation Selects Wang as Division Director

The Noble Foundation Board of Trustees has approved the promotion and appointment of Professor Zengyu Wang, Ph.D., to senior vice president and director of the Forage Improvement Division. This action came last week during the trustees' regularly scheduled July meeting.

Wang has served as interim director and been a member of the organization's Leadership Team since April. "Dr. Wang is one of our most respected researchers," said Bill Buckner, President and CEO of the Noble Foundation. "He brings a strong sense of leadership and a willingness to serve. He is an advocate for the Noble Foundation and agriculture. Dr. Wang is the clear choice to lead this division into the future."

Wang, who is originally from Hebei, China, earned his doctorate degree in agronomy from Beijing Agricultural University in 1990. He then completed a five-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Plant Sciences at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland, before joining the Plant Biotechnology Center at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, as a research scientist for three years.

Wang joined the Noble Foundation as a principal investigator in 1998, later earning the rank of professor of the Forage Improvement Division. "I feel privileged to have been given this opportunity to lead the Forage Improvement Division and contribute to the Noble Foundation's overall management," Wang said. "The Noble Foundation has an extensive history in forage breeding. I hope to build on this great legacy and have a lasting impact for all of agriculture by working with our researchers."

Wang's research focuses on improving agriculturally significant crops, specifically forages for cattle and biofuels. He has authored or co-authored more than 80 peer-reviewed articles and 32 book chapters, and holds 11 patents for his research.
