Chapel Creek Winery Wins Top Vinter Award at Oklahoma State Fair

More than 100 entries from Oklahoma, New Mexico and California were judged during the 2014 Oklahoma State Fair Wine Contest. Twenty - four wine s earned gold medals, 33 received silver medals and 29 were presented with bronze medals.
In the Amateur Division, John Foster's Chocolate Port was selected as Best of Show Red and Tuscan Cowboy's Piesporter won Best of Show White.
In the Professional Division, Best of Show Red went to Chapel Creek Winery's Norton and its Peach won Best of Show White. Beringer was selected as the Grand Champion International and Chapel Creek Winery as the Grand Champion Oklahoma.
Wine experts conducted the blind taste judging, which evaluates each wine based on its own merit.
The Max Knotts Vintner Award was created in 2012 to honor the longtime Oklahoma State Fair, Inc. Board Member and founder of the Oklahoma Grape Growers' Association. Vintners who enter wines made from Oklahoma-grown grapes are considered for this honor and the vintner with the highest point total wins the award.
Chapel Creek Winery earned its third consecutive Max Knotts Vinter Award wi th six gold medal wines, three silver medal wines and one bronze medal wines. Chapel Creek submitted ten wines to be judged, the highest number of entries for any Oklahoma winery.
Wines and awards will be on display in the Creati ve Arts Building during the 2014 Oklahoma State Fair from September 11 through 21.
