Feeder Cattle Narrative Report for 10/20/2014

Estimated Receipts: 10,200   Last Monday: 7411   Year Ago Monday: 9628

Compared to last week: Feeder steers mostly 2.00 to 4.00 lower, with instances of up to 10.00 lower on 700-750 lb steers. Feeder heifers mostly steady to 2.00 lower on comparable sales. Steer calves mostly 1.00 to 5.00 higher. Heifer calves mostly 5.00 to 8.00 lower. Demand moderate to good for feeders; good for calves. Quality is much more attractive this week, with several large packages of cattle on offer. Last week's rain coupled with warmer temperatures this week has been conducive for poorly emerging wheat stands in the North Central part of the state. According to USDA-NASS, 78 percent of the winter wheat has been seeded with 51 percent emerged.
