AFBF President Stallman Responds to Joint Hearing on 'WOTUS'
American Farm Bureau President Bob Stallman sent the following letter to Senator Jim Inhofe and Congressman Bill Shuster in regards to Wednesday's joint hearing of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.

The Honorable Jim Inhofe
Chairman
Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works

The Honorable Bill Shuster
Chairman
House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure

Dear Chairmen Inhofe and Shuster:

On behalf of America's farmers and ranchers, we thank you for holding today's joint hearing on the proposed Waters of the United States rule. The American Farm Bureau Federation is pleased that you are standing up for farmers and ranchers to shed light on this unprecedented expansion of the federal government's regulation of farm and ranch lands.

It has been nearly a year since EPA and the Corps first proposed this rule, yet the farm and ranch community still lacks the clarity and certainty that was promised. We have asked the questions and submitted our comments, yet the agricultural community still needs clear and straight answers from Administration officials over the intent and actual meaning of this proposed rule. We strongly believe that the EPA and Corps of Engineers have proposed a rule that expands federal jurisdiction over land and related land use activities far beyond what Congress authorized in the Clean Water Act. At the same time, the proposed rule ignores the Supreme Court's efforts to set limits to the federal government's regulatory reach into our nation's heartland.

The EPA and its supporters have fought a fierce battle to obscure the full impact of this rule. Undeterred, you have each labored to uncover the truth behind their obfuscation. We look forward to working with you to stop this regulatory overreach once and for all.

Sincerely,

Bob Stallman
President
