Mon, 23 Mar 2015 05:47:45 CDT
The 2015 Oklahoma Youth Expo Sale of Champions saw a record level of support as the show celebrated its centennial year of existence. Originally started in 1915 by the Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce in 1915, the 100th annual renewal of a market animal show in Oklahoma City recorded $1.25 million dollars in premium sales for the 211 animals that were the cream of the crop in the four species shown during the course of the week leading up to the auction. Those dollars were on top of market value of the animals in this premium sale.
The Grand Champion Market Lamb was sold at the highest price seen in recent years for $25,000. The best lamb, the Champion Hampshire Lamb, of the 2015 show was shown by Lydia Straka of the El Reno 4-H Club. The price of $25,000 was paid by a group of buyers that were led by Touchstone Energy- and also included CSKT Trailers(formerly known as Central States Trailers) and by Bobcat. The excitement of the 100th Birthday of the OYE caused a substantial jump in the sale price of the Grand Champion Lamb, which sold for $20,000 in 2014.
The Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb was shown by Cal Davis of Guthrie FFA for $12,500 and was purchased by the Oklahoma State Fair and American Farmers & Ranchers.
The Bronze Medallion Market Lamb was brought into the ring by its owner, Emily Smith of the Elk City FFA- and it sold for $8,000. The buyer on the Bronze Medallion Lamb was the Diamond Hats organization.
