Test Weights Slipping as Harvest Nears a Conclusion Across Oklahoma- The Latest OWC Report The 2015 Oklahoma hard red winter wheat harvest continues and is beginning to wind down- and the latest harvest report from the Oklahoma Wheat Commission shows that many areas of the state are from 85% complete to completely done. This is the final report for June from the Wheat Commission- with their next report planned for Wednesday, July first.

Here is the report as compiled by Mike Schulte and his staff at the Wheat Commission:

"Wheat harvest has moved forward this past weekend throughout Oklahoma, with most locations in Southern and Central Oklahoma completed, with reports of other elevator locations on the Oklahoma Kansas line to be 85% to 95% complete depending on location. Reports from the Oklahoma Panhandle show that harvest in this region is approximately 35% completed. We did have rain showers early Monday morning in parts of Southwest and Central Oklahoma, with more rain in parts of the Panhandle and Western Oklahoma as of this afternoon.

"In the Panhandle regions, test weights are averaging 59 lbs. with ranges all over the board from 52 lbs. to 64 lbs. per bushel. Protein reports from the Panhandle are coming in at 13.3% for the average in this region.

"In Northeast Oklahoma around Afton and Miami, yields have been reported to be ranging all over the board from 30 bushels an acre to as high as 60 bushels per acre. Test weights being reported are not as high in this region. Currently we are looking at a 56 lb. per bushel average on test weights in Northeast Oklahoma. No proteins were reported from the Northeast region of the state.

"Test weights throughout the state have moved down averaging 56 lbs. to 58 lbs. per bushel. Yields have been ranging all over the board from 20 bushels per acre to as high as 50 bushels per acre. On average, for the state in Northern Oklahoma, we have heard a lot of yields reported to be making in the mid 30's or a little higher. Test weights around the Helena and Goltry areas have been higher with some still hitting above 60 lbs. per bushel. Test weights around the Tonkawa, Blackwell and Ponca City areas have been coming in lower, with smaller kernel size on the wheat because of the heavy rains in that region. Proteins throughout the state have been reported to be ranging from 10% to 13% with an average estimated slightly above 12% for most regions. Minimal sprout damage has been reported in the South Central and Central parts of Oklahoma, with little sprout damage being reported in the Northern regions of the state. In some parts of North Central and Northwest Oklahoma, test weights are lower with decent yields still making in the mid 40's. It has been reported as harvest has progressed further North into Kansas producers are seeing better test weight and yields."
