Plains Grains Reports Wheat Harvest Progress- Texas 23% Done- Oklahoma 17% Complete

The second weekly Plains Grains, Inc wheat harvest report was released late Thursday evening- and it has significant harvest progress reported as compared to last week's report when all locations were just starting. The PGI report shows that 23% of the Texas wheat crop is now harvested, 17% of Oklahoma has been cut and Kansas is on the board with one percent of their wheat harvested as of the 11th of June.
According to the report- "Combines are now cutting wheat from the Texas Gulf Coast to as far north as extreme southern Kansas (over 700 miles (1,120 km)). Central Texas continues to harvest the lighter soils (sandy) and heavier soils (clay) that had livestock grazing during the growing season. Those areas not grazed and on clay soil remain water logged, lodged and any attempts to move into these fields have resulted in combines either being stuck or making very deep ruts. Far northern Texas and the southern 1/4 of Oklahoma are now 85% complete; harvest within areas of central Oklahoma are now 45% complete; northern areas of Oklahoma are just getting into the full swing of harvest as is the southern 10% of Kansas.
"The first 35 samples have been submitted to the lab for evaluation. Still being in very early harvest, anecdotal information continues to suggest sprout damage continues limited with only smaller pockets of damage above 3% - 5% being reported. Overall test weight continues in the 57 lb/bu (75.1 kg/hl) to 59 lb/bu (77.6 kg/hl), but is defined in a very mosaic pattern with inclusions of much lower test weights. These lower test weights are attributed to not just the relentless heavy rains, but to an epidemic of stripe rust during the final stages of development. Where fungicides were used test weights have been generally higher. Yield estimates continue to mostly range from 20 to 50 bushels per acre (1.4 to 3.4 tons/ha). Overall, reported (anecdotal) protein is still averaging 11.5% (with fairly wide ranges being observed from 10% to over 13%). "
