Oklahoma National Stockyards - Add Mid-Session

Feeder Cattle Narrative Report for 06/22/2015

Estimated Receipts: 4,600   Last Monday: 7,323   Year Ago Monday: 6,524

Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers steady to 2.00 higher. Steer and heifer calves too lightly tested for market trend. Demand remains very good for feeder cattle despite another week of lower slaughter cattle prices. Higher prices in the auction today matched the gains recognized by the CME Feeder Cattle futures. Quality was plain to average but flesh conditions were favorable to buyers with the majority of the offerings average to thin fleshed. Warm weather returned to the state over the weekend, and no rain is in the forecast until next weekend. This will allow the wheat harvest to make some much needed progress, as the Oklahoma Wheat Commission shows only 41 percent of the wheat crop has been harvested.
