Commitment Brings Quality to the Table, Story of Tokach Angus
Tue, 27 Oct 2015 15:52:47 CDT
Tokach Angus Ranch was recently recognized as the 2015 CAB Seedstock Commitment to Excellence Award winner. Richard Tokach, who operates Tokach Angus Ranch, St. Anthony, N.D., talks about how his family got their start in ranching.
"My dad was actually the one who bought the first registered Angus cattle in 1955," Tokach said. "That was the start of Tokach Angus Ranch and I guess we've been here ever since."
Those "since" years have brought highs and lows but Tokach and his brother Brad say there's no other job for them.
"I've been here a few years, obviously, and every day I enjoy getting out of bed and tearing into the new day," Tokach said. "Very few people or I guess-I'm one of the lucky ones that gets to enjoy what he does every day."
The herd built on genetic selection for calving ease, growth and now including beef quality keeps customers coming back for more.
"The carcass traits have really come on and that's kind of played into what we had been doing all along," Brad Tokach said. "I think the more data you can give the customers, the better off you are."
Their customers wear cowboy hats and boots, but that doesn't mean they aren't focused on the consumer at the end of the line.
"We work at this 365 to bring the best product forward and we're more than willing to share," Tokach said. "We take pride in our product and we're happy, we're proud of it. One of the things we do in ranching country is we slap our brand on everything. We're proud of that brand, it's part of us, just like the Certified Angus Beef ® brand, it's a brand that you stand up for and are proud of."
