Olivia Westfahl of Okeene FFA Named Grand Champion at 2015 Oklahoma Junior Wheat Show

Olivia Westfahl, daughter of Ron and Tracy Westfahl, has been named the overall grand champion award showing her Ruby Lee variety in the 2015 Oklahoma 4-H/FFA Junior Wheat Show. Westfahl placed 1st in production and milling and 6th in baking, earning her the title of 1st place among the FFA, FFA champion, and overall grand champion of the 4-H and FFA Junior Wheat Show. Westfahl is from the Okeene FFA chapter.
Chance Bedwell, son of Steve and Susan Bedwell, recently placed 1st overall in the 4-H division while showing his Ruby Lee variety at the 2015 Oklahoma 4-H/FFA Junior Wheat Show. Bedwell placed 1st in production and milling, 7th in the bake contest, earning him the title of 1st place among the 4-H and 4-H champion overall. Bedwell is a member of the Okeene 4-H club. Westfahl and Bedwell accepted their awards at a recognition banquet held at the Oklahoma State University Alumni Center last night.
Westfahl, a member of the Okeene FFA in Blaine County, would have received $3,000 in scholarship money for her accomplishments with her Ruby Lee variety but has maxed out her scholarship earnings with awards from previous years and this year received a $2000 scholarship. Westfahl, also received an extra $500 premium for being grand champion from WestBred®. Oklahoma Genetics Incorporated (OGI) presented a $750 premium on top of those awards to Westfahl for winning 1st place and then Grand Champion overall in the FFA competition with the Ruby Lee variety since it was an OGI Inc., release. Westfahl also received a $350 premium from the Oklahoma Wheat Research Foundation, along with a $40 premium for production, milling, bake contest and a trophy.
Bedwell, a member of the Okeene 4-H club in Blaine County, received $3,000 in scholarship money for his accomplishments with his Ruby Lee variety. Chance also won a $500 premium from Oklahoma Genetics, Inc., $250 scholarship from WestBred®, a $10 premium for the Bake contest, $25 premium for production and milling contest and a trophy. In all $16,000 in scholarship money was given away at the banquet.
