Ames, Okla., farmer and rancher Terry Detrick is stepping aside as President of American Farmers & Ranchers, to pursue additional leadership opportunities within the organization.
Detrick has been president since February 2009. He has also served AFR in various leadership positions including board member and vice president, serving three previous Presidents.
Detrick will remain president until the 2017 AFR convention, Feb. 17-18, at which time voting delegates will elect his replacement.
In conjunction with the announcement, Detrick said he will file for election to an open board seat designated for the northwest Oklahoma licensed agent position.
"This action will allow me to continue my goal of advancing agriculture and our insurance programs while establishing a succession plan for the organization and the next generation. I have devoted much of my life to serving agriculture," Detrick said.
"My tenure as president has been blessed with great staff and volunteer leaders and a membership whose loyalty and support has been boundless. We have made great strides in advancing AFR insurance and agriculture. I am especially proud of our focus on rural youth," Detrick said.
Under Detrick's presidency, AFR has invested one-third of a million dollars annually in youth development and leadership programs.
Also, AFR has become a Title Sponsor of the Oklahoma FFA Foundation and 4-H.
During Detrick's tenure with AFR, the organization has strengthened ties with other agriculture groups in Oklahoma and nationwide.
"It's extremely important that the agriculture industry stay united and work together," Detrick said.
