Know Thy Customers is Excellent Advice- For Beef Producers- That Means Listening to Jason Dorsey Explain MillennialsTue, 02 Jan 2018 08:22:18 CST
Both the beef and pork checkoffs have turned their promotional attention toward Generation Y- otherwise known as the Millennials. They are being called the most influential generation of customers, citizens, and employees since the Baby Boomers were in their forties and fifties. Jason Dorsey is one of the most knowledgable researchers on the work habits and attitudes of Millennials- and this Austin, Texas based guru on both Generations Y and Z(those under 21) was a speaker this past fall at the Texas Cattle Feeders Association.
At that meeting, Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays sat down and talked with Jason after this presentation about what makes Millennials and Gen Zs tick- and how the beef industry can best portray the industry and beef as a great protein source to these consumers under the age of 40. You can hear a part of their conversation in this edition of the Beef Buzz- just click on the LISTEN BAR at the bottom of this story.
Dorsey says that Millennials have had the reputation of putting off becoming adults- but most have reached the age where that is no longer an option- they are getting married, buying homes, having kids and becoming big consumers along the way. Generation Z appears to be a harder working generation- and one that will likely be more conservative in how they spend their money and less willing to buy name brands at full retail prices.

The Millennials are very important customers for producers of beef- so much so that the Beef Industry has made them the primary focus of their digital marketing efforts- including the revamped Beef, It's What's for Dinner campaign.
The Beef Buzz is a regular feature heard on radio stations around the region on the Radio Oklahoma Network and is a regular audio feature found on this website as well.
