From Cattle Industry Conventon 2018- Don Close Previews US Beef Cow Herd Number Coming from USDAWed, 31 Jan 2018 06:20:43 CST
Wednesday afternoon, the USDA will release the annual Cattle Inventory Report based on the numbers from January first, 2018. Don Close,V.P. Food & Agribusiness Research & Advisory, Animal Protein at Rabo AgriFinance, talked with Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays about what he expects to see out of the report as it relates to the US Beef Cow Herd. Close and Hays discussed the numbers and what they might mean to future beef supplies as the 2018 Cattle Industry Convention was getting underway in Phoenix.
Close says the overall heifer supply picture that has been pieced together for 2017 continues to point to a one to perhaps two percent increase in the US Beef Cow inventory- which could mean a beef cow herd in the US close to 32 million head. He believes that number is adequate to supply domestic and international beef demand at this point.
Hays is featuring the comments of Don Close on the upcoming report in today's Beef Buzz.
