Republican State Senator AJ Griffin Announces Intentions Not to Seek Re-election During Next Race

Wed, 21 Mar 2018 14:30:30 CDT

Republican State Senator AJ Griffin Announces Intentions Not to Seek Re-election During Next Race State Senator A. J. Griffin announced this week she will not seek re-election after the completion of the 2018 legislative session. The Guthrie Republican has served in the Senate since 2012.

“I struggled for months before arriving at the decision not to seek another term, but I’ve continued to hear God’s call in another direction and believe I’m being led to return to the front lines of service,” Griffin said. “It’s been an honor and privilege to be a voice for my constituents in Senate District 20. I have always been a servant of my community and the decision to seek office was an extension of that service.”

Griffin currently serves as Chair of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Services. She represents Senate District 20, which includes Kingfisher, Logan, Noble and Pawnee counties.

“The men and women of the Oklahoma legislature are outstanding servants to our state and my colleagues in the Senate are some of the finest people I have ever known,” Griffin said. “They work tirelessly to continue to seek ways to move Oklahoma forward and experience the growth and improvement for our state. It is my hope we can all continue to support and help one another as we reach for excellence for all Oklahomans.”

During her time in the Senate, Griffin worked to author and pass legislation addressing Oklahoma’s fastest growing substance abuse issue, prescription drug addiction. She is also recognized as a state expert on child abuse and juvenile justice and says she will continue to serve as an advocate to improve policies to benefit Oklahoma’s children and youth.
