Rhea Fire Now 49 Percent Contained- 34 Complex Fire 85 Percent Contained After Rains Damp Both Down Some Oklahoma Forestry Services has released summaries of the work going on with both the Rhea Fire in primarily Dewey County as well as the 34 Complex Fire in Woodward County- the latest reports out on Sunday afternoon.

The picture here is of the Rhea Fire that was 49% contained as of this morning, with Forestry Services officials expecting that number to edge over the fifty percent mark this afternoon as they get reports from the day's work by the firefighters that continue on the job. (click on the picture to see an enlarged version of the fire coverage.

Total number of acres that the fire has ravaged remains at 288,694 acres. The Facebook post from the Oklahoma Forestry Services reminds the public "The rain tamped the fire down but any heat in heavy fuels will remain and could show itself should we get some warm weather and good sunshine. Stay vigilant. Our Firefighters are still working and will continue until we are sure that the fire is secured."

For the 34 Complex fire- the Foresty Services reports "Size: 62,432 acres, 85% contained. The increase in acreage from yesterday’s report is NOT the result of additional fire activity. It IS the result of continued more accurate and detailed mapping for the fire perimeter. With our "boots-on-the-ground" data collection, we're getting more accurate each day."
