Texas Cattle Feeders Opens Enrollment for the 2018 Junior Fed Beef Career and Leadership Prpgram

Mon, 30 Apr 2018 14:45:06 CDT

Texas Cattle Feeders Opens Enrollment for the 2018 Junior Fed Beef Career and Leadership Prpgram Texas Cattle Feeders Association (TCFA) is now accepting applications for the 2018 Junior Fed Beef Career and Leadership Program, which will take place June 26-29 at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU). Hosted with Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension and WTAMU, the Junior Fed Beef Career and Leadership Program, also known as Feedyard Camp, is designed for high school juniors and seniors with an interest in pursuing a career in the fed beef industry.

Twenty students from across the tri-state area of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico will be chosen to experience an in-depth look at how beef is raised. Interested students can download an application at www.tcfa.org under the news and events tab, or call (806) 358-3681. Applications should be returned to the TCFA office no later than May 11 and must be supported by two recommendation forms.

“Feedyard camp gives students with an interest in agriculture a truly one-of-a-kind experience,” said Brady Miller, TCFA market and membership manager. “The Amarillo area has a strong and diverse beef community, which makes it ideal for a camp like this. With feedyards, research and beef processing facilities all right here, we can give students interested in the beef industry a comprehensive learning experience that they will never forget.”

Attendees take part in multiple career-building activities, such as touring a feedyard and beef processing facility; meeting with feedyard personnel, WTAMU faculty, area agriculture leaders and TCFA staff; and cutting their own steaks at the WTAMU meats lab.
