Assoc. of Crop Insurers Issues Action Alert, Calls on Members to Urge Lawmakers to Vote NO on #93
Thu, 17 May 2018 09:26:16 CDT
Thursday morning, the American Association of Crop Insurers issued an Action Alert to its members requesting they immediately contact their Congressmen and insist they vote "No" on amendment #93 to H.R. 2, the Agriculture & Nutrition Act of 2018, presented by Congressman Tom McLintock of California. The letter, signed by AACI President Scott C. Graves, accompanying the alert follows.
"Tomorrow, Members of the House of Representatives will be voting on a series of amendments to H.R. 2, the Agriculture and Nutrition Act of 2018 (commonly referred to as the Farm Bill). Of the amendments being considered, there is one being offered by Congressman Tom McClintock (R-CA) (Amendment #93) that would negatively impact the crop insurance industry. Specifically, this amendment would reduce crop insurance premium discounts and administrative and operating funding by 10% each year and terminates premium support and A&O in 2030; phase out ARC and PLC program payments by 2029; phase out the non-recourse marketing loan and flexible marketing allotments for sugar by 2029; and phase out coverage under the Dairy Risk Management Program by 2029. Approval of this amendment would not only undermine this effective risk management tool but also jeopardize final passage of H.R. 2.
"As you know, crop insurance is the cornerstone of the farm safety net, and without adequate risk management tools many producers would be unable to secure financing to farm. Therefore, we urge you to contact your respective Member of Congress and urge them to vote ‘NO’ on Congressman McClintock’s amendment (#93). If you have any questions regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to contact us.
"If you do not know your respective Member of Congress, you can determine who it is by clicking here and entering in your home zip code. When the Member pops up, click the hyperlink to the right of their picture and you’ll be directed to their website where you can locate contact information."
