Angus Breeders From More Than Thirty States Headed to Yukon for the Express Ranches Big Event Sale This Weekend

Thu, 16 Aug 2018 06:05:46 CDT

Angus Breeders From More Than Thirty States Headed to Yukon for the Express Ranches Big Event Sale This Weekend Seedstock producers from more than thirty states are headed to Yukon, Oklahoma for the 2018 version of "The Big Event" being held Friday and Saturday at Express Ranches on the northside of Yukon. Express Ranch is the largest Seedstock cattle operation in the country- and their annual production sale held in August is all about females- with 222 fall bred Angus females to sell on Friday afternoon- then the traditional Big Event happens Saturday, starting at 11am, as approximately 350 Females will sell- including Donor Cows, fall and spring open heifer calves, 54 Show Heifers and 50 spring calving cows with calves by side.

Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays talked with the President of Express Ranches, Jarold Callahan. about the 2018 Big Event- and Jarold says that this year's lineup of females features an offering of the best that the Angus breed can offer- young productive heifers and cows bred to some of the very best Bulls in the Angus breed. Hays and Callahan talk about how Genomics EPDs are a vital part of the selection process in a modern seedstock operation- allowing a cattle producer to come to sale like the one being held by Express this weekend and buying with confidence the genetics they need to improve their cattle herd.

They talked about Lot 1 and how she excels at both the Dollar EPDs- $Beef Value EPD and $Feedlot Value EPD- EXAR Forever Lady 7426 is the number one bred heifer in the sale for those EPDs and number 2 overall in the sale in those categories. Callahan expects she will end up being used as a Donor Cow- and that she has the genetics to be an impactful female in the transplant program of the Angus breed- Express is offering half interest in her and hoping that the buyer will only take half interest as they want to have access to the genetics that she will likely generate in the years ahead.

Callahan tells Hays that he anticipates buyers will come from thirty to thirty five states- as well as from Canada- and others will bid online on the Superior Livestock Platform.

Express has a lot of information on the cattle being offered on their website- click here to jump there- and the information available just ahead of the sale includes the Sale Catalog, Sale Videos, an EPD Update as of August 10, Show Cattle Sale Order and Big Event Calving Sheet.
