Twelve Oklahoma Ranches Compete to Help OCA Raise Funds for Children's Hospital Foundation

Fri, 17 Aug 2018 12:59:11 CDT

Twelve Oklahoma Ranches Compete to Help OCA Raise Funds for Children's Hospital Foundation Twelve Oklahoma ranches will compete in the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association (OCA) Ranch Rodeo, next weekend, Aug. 24 and 25 at the Lazy E Arena in Guthrie, Okla. Doors open at 5 p.m. and performances start at 7 p.m. nightly.

The 34th Annual event consists of twelve ranch teams of ‘real ranch’ cowboys that compete in five different events mirroring many of the activities they do on the ranch. The competition is fierce, but the cowboys don’t take home much more than bumps and bragging rights when it’s all said and done.

“Since 1997, the benefitting charity has been the Children’s Hospital Foundation,” said Tim Drummond, OCA Ranch Rodeo Committee Chair. “CHF funds children’s medical research and treatment for children right here at home in Oklahoma.”

The event is often referred to as, ‘Cowboys Helping Kids’. Last year’s donation was $22,000 for a total of more than $475,000 given to the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

The 2018 participating ranch teams include: Alfalfa County Land & Cattle, Cherokee, Okla.; Spur Ranch, Vinita, Okla.; Buford Ranches, LLC, Hominy, Okla.; Stuart Ranch, Waurika, Okla.; Drummond Land & Cattle Co., Pawhuska, Okla.; Hall Ranch & Daube Cattle Co., Comanche and Ardmore, Okla.; Treadwell Land & Cattle, Frederick, Okla.; Kelly Ranch, Marlow, Okla.; Lazy Rafter Slash Ranch, Lenapah, Okla.; Choctaw Nation Ranches, Durant, Okla.; Whitmire Ranch, Delaware, Okla.; and Stierwalt Ranch & Cattle Co., Shidler, Okla.

“We really appreciate the loyal support of the Oklahoma Ford Dealers,” said Drummond.

The Oklahoma Ford Dealers is the presenting partner for the OCA Ranch Rodeo and has been since the inception of the event in 1985.

“Plan to bring your family to watch the show, support the Children’s Hospital Foundation and cheer on your favorite ranch team,” Drummond said.

Children can partake in a dummy roping contest at noon, Saturday, Aug. 25. Registration begins at 11 a.m. There is no entry fee. Prizes awarded and lunch provided. The kids dummy roping is sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim.

The OCA, Oklahoma Ford Dealers and Lazy E Arena extend an invitation to you to attend the OCA Ranch Rodeo, August 24 and 25 at the Lazy E Arena. Purchase your tickets at www.lazye.com.
