Noble Research Institute to Host Field Day to Showcase Pecan Harvest in Action Planned for Oct.18Thu, 27 Sep 2018 10:52:58 CDT
The Noble Research Institute will host a Pecan Harvest Field Day from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at the Noble Research Institute Red River Farm.
During the field day, attendees will see specialists prepare the pecan orchard floor for harvest and observe pecan harvesting in action. Equipment demonstrations will highlight the different types of equipment needed for successful harvest, including tree shakers, limb rakes and harvesters.
“Successful pecan management requires a broad base of knowledge, and this field day show new and experience pecan growers the ins and outs of harvesting,” said Charles Rohla, Ph.D., pecan and specialty agriculture systems manager. “It’s also important to understand the many variables that impact the profitability and livelihood of pecan enterprises.”
Noble pecan specialists will discuss the process of cleaning and marketing pecans. A question-and-answer session will address questions related to harvesting, marketing and orchard management.
This workshop is open to the public at no charge, but preregistration is requested. For more information and to register, please visit www.noble.org/events or call 580-223-5810.
