Make Plans Now to Attend the South Central Oklahoma Vegetable Growers Workshop Set for Dec. 4Tue, 27 Nov 2018 11:43:39 CST
The Murray County Extension Center will host a “South Central Vegetable Growers Workshop” on the evening of Tuesday, December 4. Anyone interested in home or commercial vegetable gardening should consider attending this program. The group of speakers who will be presenting represent well over 100 years of experience and research knowledge in areas of gardening that are often challenging to new and veteran growers. This year the program theme is Integrated Pest Management, commonly referred to as IPM.
How do you recognize what disease is plaguing your tomatoes or squash plants? What are the bugs that are greeting you each trip to the green bean rows, and are they beneficial friends, or a problem? Question such as these will be addressed during this program.
IPM involves using all of the tools that are available to achieve safe and cost effective pest control. What options do vegetable growers have for preventing losses to crops like corn, tomatoes, or okra in our region? Most vegetable gardeners don’t want to use chemicals, but how do you balance their use with a healthy and productive return on your gardening investment? The program will help growers get a better handle on these questions.
