Beef Battalion Fundraiser Delivers Enough Bucks to Feed Thousands of Troops as a Thank You for Their Service

Beef Battalion Fundraiser Delivers Enough Bucks to Feed Thousands of Troops as a Thank You for Their Service Several members of the All American Beef Battalion were at the Oklahoma National Stockyards on Monday, the final day of the year for the feeder and stocker market. Among those who were at the market was Jon Fort, who has been with the Beef Battalion since the first steak dinner was prepared for members of the military in Olathe, Kansas in 2008.

Fort says in the ten years that the All American Beef Battalion has been on the job, hundreds of thousands of ribeye steak dinners have been served as a thank you for those are in our armed services. He points out that the effort is totally volunteer- no one receives a salary as all funds that are donated go to feed the troops.

Fort told Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays that he and others from Garden City, Kansas, where the Battalion is based, were excited to be in Oklahoma City as the annual fund raiser of selling and reselling a donated calf at the Oklahoma National Stockyards is easily the largest fundraiser that is done annually for the Battalion.

Fort says the meals prepared for the troops "are a full meal deal- basically we do a steak, sweet corn- it's my wife's grandmother's recipe and then we do potatoes and chocolate chip cookies and drinks and then we do all beef hotdogs for the kids."

Fort and the others with the Beef Battalion agree it's all about shaking the hands of the troops, looking them in the face and saying thank you for your service- he calls it "pretty special."

You can learn more about the work of these volunteers by going to their website Steaks for Troops.Com (Click on it to jump there)- there is a way you can use PayPal to donate to the efforts. The Monday Fundraiser was a huge success, with over $46,000 accounted for as of late Monday afternoon- with more donations still to be counted- the total dollar amount given over the eight years the fundraiser has been happening at the Oklahoma National Stockyards has now pushed past the $400,000 mark with the 2018 proceeds.

You may donate to the fundraiser in Oklahoma City, coordinated by National Livestock. Call 800-310-0220 and speak with Debbie Wedel.
