From the 2015 Cattle Industry Convention- Ron Hays talks Beef Export Success with Phil Seng

Beef Exports for all of calendar year 2014 topped the seven billion dollar mark, according to the President and CEO of the US Meat Export Federation, Phil Seng. Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays talked with Seng at the Cattle Industry Convention in San Antonio on Thursday- and Seng says value of beef exports was strongly higher, with the overall volume of exports about the same as was seen in 2013. The higher value was the result of higher cattle and beef prices here in the US during 2014.
Seng pointed out that our largest market, Japan, continued to see strong growth and actually had both a value and volume increase year over year- and that further gains are possible in 2015, if current dock slowdowns on the west coast can be addressed. Seng is concerned about the signals that our customers in Asia are receiving as these dock problems continue- as the reliability of the United States as a meat export supplier is being called into question by our competitors.
