From the 2015 Cattle Industry Convention- Art Douglas Offers a 15 Year Weather Forecast
Fri, 06 Feb 2015 05:50:15 CSTThe Cattlefax Outlook Seminar is one of the highlights of the Cattle Industry Convention year in and year out- and one of the highlights of the Cattlefax Seminar is the weather forecast that leads off the Session each year- as presented by Dr. Art Douglas. In 2015, Dr. Douglas talked about a slow developing El Nino of last year that could reestablish itself here in 2015 and impact US weather this summer and fall.
However, the most fascinating part of the Art Douglas report for 2015 came at the end of his presentation as he reported on the temperatures in both the Atlantic and Pacific- saying what has been hot is now turning cold and vice versa. In this case, the Atlantic seems to be turning colder and the Pacific has trended hotter- and the Ocean temps are enough to flip the general weather pattern seen from 1998 to 2013 in North America. That period was generally hotter and drier than normal- and especially that was the case in the southern plains and the southwest.
For the next few years- Douglas thinks we may have an extended period of ten to fifteen years of cooler and wetter weather in the southern portions of the US- and a little cooler but drier in the upper midwest.
