At the Angus Cattlemen's Boot Camp- We Talk Market Outlook with Dr. Derrell Peel
Thu, 15 Oct 2015 22:39:45 CDTThe leadoff speaker at the 2015 American Angus Cattlemen's Boot Camp on Thursday at the OSU Purebred Cattle Center was Dr. Derrell Peel. The Extension Livestock Market Economist told cattle producers that had gathered in Stillwater from eight states that it appears that the cattle collapse seen in late August through early October was now behind us, with a strong rebound in the markets over just the last few days.
Dr. Peel believes that the market factor that tipped the market and caused the sharp sell off along the pipeline from the wholesale beef carcass prices to the slaughter cattle prices to yearling and stocker prices was the market losing "currentness" and carcass weights getting too heavy. Peel says much of the extra gain that caused the problem was likely just fat being added to the carcasses and that exacerbated the situation.
After his presentation- Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays talked with Peel- and you can hear their complete conversation by clicking on the LISTEN BAR below.
