Ron Hays Talks Bulls and EPDs with Jarold Callahan of Express Ranches

Wed, 24 Feb 2016 02:52:18 CST

Ron Hays Talks Bulls and EPDs with Jarold Callahan of Express Ranches One of the largest seedstock producer bull sales in the country will be held next week in Yukon, Oklahoma. The 2016 Spring Bull Sale of Express Ranches will feature over 500 Registered Purebred Angus Bulls and 34 Hereford Bulls on Friday, March Fourth. Ahead of that sale, Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays sat down and talked with the President of Express Ranches, Jarold Callahan, about the bulls they have assembled for this sale- and how a purebred or commercial cattle producer can sort through such a large number of animals to find a bull that provides optimum genetic advantages for the females in their herd.

In their conversation, Hays and Callahan talk about Genomic EPDs, which traits are most important for different herd situations and how Express combines the genomic information with visual characteristics of the bulls they produce to present a lineup of bulls that will meet the needs of cattle producers that are looking for sires that will improve their calves they produce and improve their bottom line at the same time.
