This Week’s Oklahoma’s Winter Wheat Conditions Rated 46 Percent Good to Excellent, Up 37 Points from One Year Ago

U.S. Crop Progress:

Winter wheat headed reached 30 percent, up 7 percentage points from the previous year and up 9 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 16 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 50 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 16 percent poor to very poor. 

Corn planted reached 27 percent, 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 points from the five-year average. Corn emerged reached 7 percent, up 2 points from the previous year and up 3 from the five-year average.

Soybeans planted reached 18 percent, up 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 8 points from the five-year average.

Cotton planted reached 15 percent, up 1 percentage point from the previous year and the five-year average.

Sorghum planted reached 19 percent, down 1 percentage point from the previous year and the five-year average.

Oklahoma Crop Progress:

Winter wheat jointing reached 97 percent, up 7 points from the previous year. Winter wheat headed reached 45 percent, up 5 points from the previous year and up 4 points from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 46 percent good to excellent, 40 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 39 percent fair and 12 percent poor to very poor. One year ago as of May 1, Oklahoma’s winter wheat conditions rated 9 percent good to excellent and 61 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 40 percent, up 6 percentage points from the previous year and up 9 points from the five-year average. Corn emerged reached 12 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 4 points from the five-year average.

Sorghum planted reached 5 percent, down 1 percentage point from the previous year.

Livestock conditions rated 72 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair, and 4 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 70 percent good to excellent, 24 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor. 

Range and pasture conditions rated 44 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 21 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 42 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 21 percent poor to very poor. 

Kansas Crop Progress:

Winter wheat jointed was 84 percent, well ahead of 57 percent last year, and ahead of 65 percent for the five-year average. Headed was 33 percent, well ahead of 9 percent last year and 6 percent average. Winter wheat conditions rated 31 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair, and 31 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 36 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair, and 26 percent poor to very poor. This time last year, Kansas winter wheat conditions rated 13 percent good to excellent and 64 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted was 39 percent, ahead of 31 percent last year and 29 percent average. Emerged was 17 percent, ahead of 8 percent last year and 6 percent average.

Soybeans planted was 12 percent, near 11 percent last year, and ahead of 6 percent average.

Sorghum planted was 2 percent, near 1 percent both last year and average.

Cotton planted was 1 percent, equal to both last year and average.

Texas Crop Progress:

Winter wheat headed reached 64 percent, even with the previous year and the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 48 percent good to excellent, 38 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 46 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 21 percent poor to very poor. This time last year, Texas was rated 17 percent good to excellent and 57 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 71 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 points from the five-year average. Corn emerged reached 62 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and up 4 points from the five-year average. Corn conditions rated 70 percent good to excellent, 28 percent fair and 2 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 55 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 12 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton planted reached 18 percent, down 1 percentage point from the previous year and even with the five-year average.

Sorghum planted reached 65 percent, down 2 percentage points from the previous year and down 1 point from the five-year average. Sorghum emerged reached 7 percent, up 7 percentage points from the previous year and down 1 point from the five-year average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 29 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 41 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 27 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 40 percent poor to very poor.
