Ben Hale Talks About Tremendous Cattle Demand This Week and Potential For Good Summer Grazing

Listen to Ron Hays talk with Ben Hale about the latest in the cattle markets.

On Tuesdays, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster, Ron Hays, visits with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry. Western Livestock Auctions is located in Oklahoma City, Woodward, and Comanche.

This week’s runs at Oklahoma National Stockyards totaled 8400 compared to 4300 a year ago. Hale said the demand was tremendous this week, especially for lighter cattle and heavier feeder cattle.

“They did call it steady, but it looked awfully good to me,” Hale said.

Regarding recent rains, Hale commented on the potential for a decent summer grazing season.

“I think we are well on our way,” Hale said. “In some places in Southern Oklahoma and North Texas, we filled some ponds up that we hadn’t had filled up in several years.”

Overall, Hale said cattle producers are enjoying the markets, and hoping for more green grass.
