Oklahoma’s Good to Excellent Winter Wheat Conditions Improve as Harvest Makes Minor Strides This Week

U.S. Crop Progress:

Winter wheat headed reached 83 percent, up 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 points from the five-year average. Harvested reached 6 percent, up 3 points from the previous year and the average. Winter wheat conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 18 percent poor to very poor- not changed much from last week. This time last year winter wheat conditions in the U.S. rated 36 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 34 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 91 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 2 points from the five-year average. Corn emerged reached 74 percent, down 7 percentage points from the previous year and up one point from the average. Corn conditions rated 75 percent good to excellent, 21 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor.

Soybeans planted reached 78 percent, down 11 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 points from the five-year average. Soybeans emerged reached 55 percent, down 14 percentage points from the previous year and up 3 points from the five-year average.

Cotton planted reached 70 percent, up 2 percentage points from the previous year and even with the five-year average. Cotton squaring reached 9 percent, up 4 percentage points from the previous year and up one point from the five-year average. Cotton conditions rated 61 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 60 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 8 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted reached 51 percent, up 4 percentage points from the previous year and up 5 points from the five-year average.

Pasture and range conditions rated 51 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 19 percent poor to very poor (not changed much from last week.) This time last year, conditions rated 45 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 20 percent poor to very poor.

Oklahoma Crop Progress:

Winter wheat harvested reached 22 percent, up 10 points from the previous week and up 16 points from normal. Winter wheat conditions rated 56 percent good to excellent, 31 percent fair and 13 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 15 percent poor to very poor. This time last year, winter wheat conditions rated 37 percent good to excellent, 37 percent fair and 26 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 96 percent, up 5 points from the previous week and up 17 points from normal. Corn emerged reached 87 percent, up 6 points from the previous week and up 23 points from normal. Corn conditions rated 80 percent good to excellent, 18 percent fair and 2 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 81 percent good to excellent, 17 percent fair and 2 percent poor to very poor.

Sorghum planted reached 47 percent, up 7 points from the previous week and up 17 points from normal.

Soybeans planted reached 37 percent, up 8 points from the previous week but down 7 points from normal.

Peanuts planted reached 70 percent, up 21 points from the previous week and up 30 points from normal. Peanut conditions rated 95 percent good to excellent, 4 percent fair and 1 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton planted reached 48 percent, up 10 points from the previous week and up 12 points from normal. Cotton conditions rated 82 percent good to excellent, 14 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor.

Livestock conditions rated 70 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 3 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 73 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 56 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 57 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 7 percent poor to very poor. This time last year, range and pasture conditions rated 53 percent good to excellent, 35 percent fair and 12 percent poor to very poor.

Kansas Crop Progress:

Winter wheat headed was 97 percent, ahead of 90 percent last year, and near 95 percent for the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 34 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 34 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 32 percent good to excellent, 36 percent fair and 32 percent poor to very poor. This time last year, conditions rated 12 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 65 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted was 92 percent, near 88 percent last year, and ahead of 87 percent average. Emerged was 79 percent, ahead of 72 percent last year and 70 percent average. Corn conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 30 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor.

Cotton planted was 84 percent, ahead of 66 percent last year and 72 percent average. Cotton conditions rated 67 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 6 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 64 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 3 percent poor to very poor.

Pasture and range conditions rated 49 percent good to excellent, 32 percent fair and 19 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 46 percent good to excellent, 33 percent fair and 21 percent poor to very poor.

Texas Crop Progress:

Winter wheat harvested reached 33 percent, up 7 percentage points from the previous year and down 3 points from the five-year average. Winter wheat conditions rated 36 percent good to excellent, 45 percent fair and 19 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 36 percent good to excellent, 44 percent fair and 20 percent poor to very poor. This time last year, conditions rated 29 percent good to excellent, 34 percent fair and 37 percent poor to very poor.

Corn planted reached 95 percent, up 2 percentage points from the previous year and down 1 point from the five-year average. Corn emerged reached 88 percent, up 2 points from the previous year and down 2 points from the average. Corn silked reached 50 percent, up 5 points from the previous year and the average. Corn conditions rated 63 percent good to excellent, 23 percent fair and 14 percent poor to very poor. Last week’s conditions rated 63 percent good to excellent, 27 percent fair and 10 percent poor to very poor. 

Cotton planted reached 62 percent, up 5 percentage points from the previous year and down 1 point from the five-year average. Peanuts planted reached 76 percent, up 17 percentage points from the previous year and up 15 points from the five-year average. Peanut conditions rated 41 percent good to excellent, 55 percent fair and 4 percent poor to very poor. Sorghum planted reached 84 percent, even with the previous year and down 1 point from the five-year average. Sorghum headed reached 44 percent, up 6 points from the previous year and the average.

Soybeans planted reached 64 percent, down 4 percentage points from the previous year and down 9 points from the five-year average. Soybeans emerged reached 46 percent, up 4 points from the previous year and down 11 points from the average.
