There was no drama for Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas in his bid for reelection in the Republican Primary on Tuesday- early on after the polls had closed- the Associated Press and other media outlets quickly declared him the winner- and with no other opponents on the November ballot- Lucas has been elected for his eighth term as a US Congressman.

With all votes counted, Congressman Lucas had over 73% of the 50,000 GOP votes cast in the Third District.

Oklahoma Farm Report’s Ron Hays talked with Lucas after his victory was assured- and they discussed what may lie ahead for him in the new 119th Congress- no matter which party is in control. He will be contending for the top GOP leadership on the Financial Services Committee. He hopes to remain as the Senior member of the House Ag Committee in the new year, especially if they have to start over and develop a 2025 Farm Bill.

But Lucas says he starts tomorrow on getting the 2024 Farm Bill passed through the US House- and he believes that will light a fire under Senate Ag Committee Chair Stabenow to get something through the Senate in order to get to a Conference with the House and the however slight it may be chance of completing a 2024 Farm Bill yet this year.
