American Simmental Association Fall Focus 2024 – Amarillo, Texas – 7/23 – 7/27, 2024

The American Simmental Association (ASA) invites cattle producers to the Texas Panhandle for Fall Focus 2024, Aug. 23-27 in Amarillo, Texas. This annual event brings together seedstock breeders, commercial producers and industry experts for three days of education, networking and a celebration of quality beef production – with no registration fees to attend.

The Fall Focus 2024 will feature a comprehensive program including workshops, panel discussions and presentations by leading experts of topics from end product awareness to workforce production. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with innovative research, new technologies and best practices that are shaping the future of the cattle industry.

“We are excited to host this year’s Fall Focus in Amarillo, a region known for its rich agricultural heritage and strong support of the beef industry,” said Chip Kemp, ASA director of commercial and industry operations. “This event is a prime opportunity for everyone to gain valuable insights, exchange ideas and advance their operations through collaboration and learning.”

A day at West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) will set the event in motion. Attendees will tour the Canyon campus’ research feedlot, view a cutting-edge ultrasound demonstration and take part in a beef sensory panel featuring the university’s Meat Science Department. That evening, the group will enjoy a ball game and dinner while cheering on Amarillo’s championship minor league baseball team, the Sod Poodles.

Saturday, Aug. 24 features an educational symposium filled with dynamic engagement about genetic advancements, sustainability practices and market trends influencing the industry. Presentations from packer, producer and consumer relations representatives are sure to foster greater understanding of opportunities and challenges in the marketplace. Headliners include Ty Lawrence, WTAMU professor and Beef Carcass Research Center director, and Texas Tech University’s Dale Woerner, a Cargill Endowed Professor in Sustainable Meat Science.

“Fall Focus is a cornerstone event for the ASA, fostering a spirit of innovation and community amongst all beef-producing sectors,” said ASA’s Jackie Atkins, director of science and education operations. “Our goal is to provide attendees with the knowledge and tools they need to enhance their breeding programs and contribute to the ongoing success of the cattle industry.”

The educational symposium will feature some of the most pressing topics for ranchers today, including end product awareness, multi-breed genetic evaluation, water concerns and workforce development.
