Ben Hale Calls Stout and Active Cattle Markets This Week

Listen to Ron Hays talk with Ben Hale about the latest in the cattle markets.

On Tuesdays, Senior Farm and Ranch Broadcaster, Ron Hays, visits with Ben Hale of Western Livestock Auctions as he talks about the latest in the markets and more. Established in 1995, Western has grown into a multi-generational family-owned and operated business and stands as a symbol of tradition, excellence, and a deep-rooted passion for the cattle industry. Western Livestock Auctions is located in Oklahoma City, Woodward, and Comanche.

Hale said runs at the Oklahoma National Stockyards on Monday were about 3,000 lighter than one year ago, but some of this may be due to weather.

“The market was extremely strong on all steers and was very active,” Hale said. “Over 650 pounds on the heifers they called a little softer, but under 650 seemed a foot higher. It was an extremely stout market yesterday.”

Regarding the morale of cattle producers, Hale said ranchers are happy to be selling cattle for higher prices. After recent rains, Hale also noted while there have been improved pasture conditions for many parts of the state, there are some parts that are still in need of additional moisture to fill ponds.

The markets in Woodward and Comanche have been exceptionally strong as well this week, Hale added. There will be Beef Quality Assurance training at the Woodward Livestock Auction on June 28th. To learn more about the upcoming BQA training and to register, click here.

Next week at the stockyards, the 2024 LMA Convention and World Livestock Auctioneer Championship will be held on June 12-15. Aside from the contest, Hale said there will be plenty of meetings and sessions to attend. To view the full schedule, CLICK HERE. To register, CLICK HERE.
